The middle mile is messy. With tight timelines and increasingly tighter margins, the operators who thrive are those who operate with certainty. This means having the right operating system built specifically for the complexity of intermodal container logistics. Not being let down by generic transport management systems that don’t provide the network intelligence required to execute successfully.
Supporting their continued growth to bring a more comprehensive single solution to the market across European corridors, Fargo has acquired IXOLUTION, a Netherlands-based provider of intermodal transport management software.
Why IXOLUTION?
Aligned with how Fargo operates, IXOLUTION was founded in 2013 with a single focus: to help intermodal operators manage increasingly complex inland logistics operations more effectively. Over the past 13 years, the team has built IXSuite, a platform that supports transport planning, terminal operations and rail cargo logistics, which has grown to serve more than 1,300 users across 12 countries.Connected by experience, Fargo and IXOLUTION have a similar understanding and commitement to building purpose-built software that is built from the start to handle the handoffs between road, rail and terminal without losing visibility, without creating lag, and without generating the kind of manual workarounds that cost operators time and money every day.
“IXOLUTION is a natural fit for Fargo. We have the same passion to solve the intermodal supply chain challenges and look forward to expanding our reach as the only true operating system for intermodal logistics across Europe.”
— Darren Palfrey, CEO, Fargo Group
What this means for IXOLUTION customers
If you are an IXOLUTION customer, the most important thing to know is this: nothing changes on day one except you now have the backing of Fargo and the natural opportunity to leverage solutions across the UK.
Ton Stuit and Kornee Sterrenburg remain in their roles. The teams in Zwijndrecht and Nettetal-Kaldenkirchen stay in place. IXOLUTION continues to operate under its own name — as IXOLUTION, A Fargo Group Company — and the relationships, culture and customer focus that matter to the business remain exactly as they are.
By joining the Fargo Group, IXOLUTION gains access to additional development capacity, international expertise, greater scale, broader capability and a long-term commitment to the intermodal sector. This will enable IXOLUTION to further expand their solutions for their existing customer base and accelerate innovation. “Joining Fargo Group gives us the opportunity to continue building on that vision with greater scale, broader capability and long-term investment, while maintaining the relationships, culture and customer focus that are important to us.”
— Ton Stuit, CEO, IXOLUTION
What this means for Fargo customers
For Fargo customers, this acquisition extends the group’s intermodal capability across the North Sea–Benelux–Germany corridor. As cross-border container flows continue to grow, having connected software capability across those corridors matters.
The combined group now brings together Fargo’s established UK footprint — Fargo TOPS handles approximately 80% of UK intermodal container transport — with IXOLUTION’s European customer network and multimodal platform. That breadth of capability, across transport, terminal and logistics operations, strengthens what we can offer customers operating across both markets.
Product investment will continue in both platforms. Where integration creates genuine value for customers, we will pursue it. Where the platforms serve different operational needs in different markets, we will respect that. Customer outcomes drive every decision.
The bigger picture
This acquisition is the first step in Fargo’s plan to build the leading European intermodal logistics software business.
The European intermodal market is growing. Shifting freight from road to rail, expanding port hinterland connections, managing multimodal handoffs across borders. These are the challenges operators face today, and they require software that understands the sector at that level of detail.
Fargo has spent over two decades building that depth of knowledge in the UK. IXOLUTION has spent over a decade building it across mainland Europe. Together, we have the foundations to build something that serves the whole corridor.
